Among the urological surgeries performed in the operating rooms of 'Athealth Medical Center':

Surgery to treat undescended testicles in babies (orchiopexy)
in the fetal stage, after the testicles of a male fetus develop, they descend from the abdomen into the scrotum. In a small proportion of fetuses, one or both testicles remain in the abdominal cavity or descend to the groin and they are born when the testicle or testicles are not located in the scrotum, a medical phenomenon called undescended testicle. In about half of the babies born with undescended testicles, the testicle(s) descend into the scrotum within a few months - without any surgical intervention. In babies whose problem has not been resolved, surgery will be performed with the aim of placing the testicle(s) in the anatomical location, in the scrotum. This procedure will usually be performed between the ages of 6 and 15 months.
A problem with Tamir's testicle that is not treated through surgery, increases the risk of developing fertility problems in adulthood and also increases the risk of developing testicular cancer.
Surgery to lower Tamir's testicle into the scrotum, performed under general anesthesia.

Surgery for the treatment of varicocele in children and adults
Varicocele is a medical problem that manifests itself in the expansion of the testicular veins in varying degrees of severity and may cause a disturbance in the drainage of blood from the testicle into the renal vein. Varicocele is a problem that is usually discovered during puberty or in cases of infertility due to a low sperm count. The treatment of varicocele is essential in order to prevent fertility problems in the future that originate from a reduced production of the seminal fluid.
When the varicose veins in the testicle are extensive, an operation is performed during which the enlarged vein is tied. After the operation, the blood will be drained from the testicle, through other veins. Surgery to treat varicocele is performed under general anesthesia in children and regional anesthesia in adults.

Surgery to treat hydrocele in babies and adults
in the fetal stage when the testicles descend from the abdomen into the scrotum, in some fetuses fluid will drain into the scrotum and accumulate in it (hydrocele). Usually the fluids will be absorbed until birth, however in about 15% of births, usually premature babies, the fluid in the scrotum will not be absorbed and the testicle area will appear swollen. If the fluid is not absorbed by about one year of age, surgery will be performed to remove the fluid pocket.
Hydrocele can also develop in adults in cases such as testicular inflammation and tumors of the testicle. Surgery to treat hydrocele is performed under general anesthesia in children and regional anesthesia in adults.

Surgery to treat a crack at the bottom of the urethra (HYPOSPADIAS)
One of the most common birth defects in boys is a crack at the bottom of the urethra (hypospadias), a condition in which in addition to the normal urethral opening intended for urination, there is another opening. The opening can be the entire length of the penis and the urine will also leak through it, therefore without correction through surgery, the child will not be able to urinate standing up and achieve an erection for sexual intercourse later in life. There are different degrees of severity depending on the location of the additional opening. In some cases this birth defect can be combined with scoliosis of the penis.
Surgery to repair a crack at the bottom of the urethra is performed under full anesthesia, in most cases between the ages of six months and two years.

Cystoscopy is
a diagnostic procedure performed in cases of suspected benign and malignant tumors in the urinary and genital system, burning when urinating, recurrent urinary tract infections and when blood appears in the urine.
As part of a cystoscopy, an examination of the urethral tube and urinary bladder is performed using a cystoscope - an optical fiber that is inserted into the urinary bladder and into the opening of the urethral tube. During the test, a sample can be taken from a tissue suspected of being cancerous, in order to perform a biopsy test in the laboratory.
A cystoscopy is usually performed under local or regional anesthesia.

Surgery for the removal of a testicle in children and adults (ORCHIECTOMY)
is intended for patients who have been diagnosed with a malignant cancerous tumor in the testicle, with the aim of removing the testicle with the tumor. Orchiectomy is performed in cases where chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy did not help to stop the tumor. Likewise, surgery for orchiectomy is performed in children in the condition of testicular encirclement, which is manifested in the rotation of the testicle around itself and as a result, the blood flow to the testicle is impaired. If, as a result of a lack of blood supply, a necrosis of the testicle is formed, the testicle is amputated in order to prevent more extensive damage. Orchiectomy surgery is performed under general anesthesia.
It is important to note that excision of one testicle will not harm fertility since one testicle secretes a sufficient amount of male sex hormones and produces a sufficient amount of sperm.

Surgery to correct penile curvature (Curvature of the penis)
Penile curvature is manifested by abnormal bending of the penis during erection to the right, left, downwards or upwards. Penile scoliosis can be congenital on a genetic background or develop in older men as a result of having sex. Also, in older men, penile scoliosis can be a symptom of Peyronie's disease, which manifests itself in scarring of the penis which causes bending. Peyronie's disease is more common among men who suffer from risk factors such as: diabetes; Hypertension and high levels of lipids in the blood.
In babies, the surgery will usually be performed between six months and one year of age. In most cases, the surgery includes releasing and folding the skin surrounding the penis and re-stitching it while correcting the angle of the scoliosis. In adults, surgery will be performed to treat penile scoliosis, when the scoliosis does not allow penetration during intercourse and/or causes pain during intercourse.
The surgery is performed on babies under general anesthesia and on adults under regional anesthesia.

Vasectomy surgery
is intended for men who have decided that they want to avoid any chance of pregnancy. This is an irreversible surgery and therefore it is only intended for men who are certain that they will not want children in the future
As part of a vasectomy surgery, the vas deferens that carry sperm from the testicles to the urethra are severed and after the severance, the vas deferens are tied. The operation is performed under general or regional anesthesia.

Condyloma treatment
A condyloma or papilloma is a wart that develops on the skin after exposure to the human papilloma virus (HPV) and will usually have the shape and structure of a tiny cauliflower. Due to the tendency of the condylomas to spread and infect, it is very important to treat them as soon as possible.
The treatment is performed by burning with a laser device or surgical removal of the skin lesion.
Condyloma warts in men usually develop on the penis, scrotum and anus.

Surgery to repair and widen a narrow urethral opening (MEATOTOMY)
Between 5-10% of babies will suffer from narrowing or obstruction of the urethral opening after circumcision.
The narrowing of the opening of the urethra causes difficulties in urinating and pain and can also cause urinary retention. When the urine accumulates in the body and can cause infections and kidney damage. The solution in these cases is only surgical and its purpose is to widen the opening of the urethra. The operation is short and is performed under general anesthesia.
