All orthopedic surgeries are performed under the HOLOGIC Mini C Arm robotic x-ray mirror system, which was developed according to the specific needs of orthopedic surgeons.
The advantages of the robotic X-ray system for the patient and the surgeon are many:

  • A clearer image with minimal exposure of the patient to radiation, compared to old mirror systems
  • High quality HD 3D image during surgery
  • The sharp image allows the surgeon a clear view of the operated area and thus increases the accuracy levels of the operation

The operating rooms at Athealth Medical Center are equipped with the medical equipment to perform all types of surgical operations that do not require hospitalization of more than 23 hours, in the areas of the hand, foot and ankle. Among the orthopedic surgeries performed at the Athealth Medical Center by senior orthopedic surgeons in Israel:

Surgery to release the carpal tunnel
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage in the wrist area. Tendons and nerves pass through it, including the median nerve, which is responsible for the movement of the fingers and the sensation between the thumb and fingers. When edema or inflammation occurs as a result of the swelling of the muscle tendon(s), pressure is exerted on the median nerve which may manifest itself in a feeling of numbness, numbness and pain in the fingers to which the nerve passes. In most cases the pain radiates from the palm to the arm, shoulder and neck. These symptoms are a manifestation of carpal tunnel syndrome. The phenomenon is very common in people who use the palm of their hand, for example in daily use of the computer mouse.

In cases where treatment with anti-inflammatory pain relievers; Cortisone and immobilizing the hand in a splint do not help reduce the pain, an operation is performed to release the carpal tunnel. As part of the surgery, the carpal ligament that borders the tunnel is cut, with the aim of increasing the volume of the carpal tunnel and thus reducing pressure from the median nerve. The operation is performed under local anesthesia or under sedation, using a minimally invasive endoscopic method.

Surgery to release Trigger finger
'Trigger finger' is a phenomenon in which one of the fingers is caught in a bent position and in some cases can even be permanently 'locked' without the possibility of straightening or bending it. (Similar to the action of pressing the trigger of a gun). The phenomenon occurs as a result of inflammation that causes a narrowing of the sheath of the canal through which the tendon of one of the fingers passes. The inability to straighten or bend the finger is accompanied by pain and swelling.
When treatment to straighten the splint and treatment of the inflammation with cortisone do not help and the finger is 'locked', surgery is performed in which the inflamed tissue is removed and the stenosis is opened by cutting the sheath of the canal where there is thickening, with the aim of releasing the tendon caught in the sheath of the canal.
The operation is performed under local anesthesia or under sedation.

Surgery to treat 'Tennis Elbow'
'Tennis elbow' is a phenomenon manifested by pain on the outside of the elbow radiating to the palm. The source of the pain is the inflammation that develops as a result of a tear in the origin of the straightening tendons of the wrist and fingers located on the outside of the elbow. This medical problem has been nicknamed 'tennis elbow' because improper arm alignment movement, while lifting the racket during a tennis match, can cause inflammation when it is a repetitive action. However, in only a small part of those who suffer from the problem, the cause is playing tennis, in most cases the problem is related to some action that is performed as part of routine work and causes strain on the wrist. For the majority of people who suffer from the problem, stopping the same repetitive action and physical therapy exercises to strengthen the hand in combination with anti-inflammatory pain relievers and/or cortisone injection, help to treat the inflammation and relieve the pain. When all measures do not help, surgery is performed in which the inflamed tissue is cut. The operation is performed with a minimally invasive method, through two small openings and without cutting the elbow. The operation can be performed under local or general anesthesia.

Surgery to correct Hallux Valgus - hallux
valgus is a very common deformity of the big toe that manifests itself in the deviation of the toe outward, towards the other four toes. The deviation causes the formation of a bulge of the bone on the inner side of the foot called a bunion. Ballet comes in constant contact with shoes, especially shoes with a narrow sole and high heels. The daily friction on the protruding bone causes inflammation involving pain, swelling and redness and discomfort when walking. In addition to these symptoms, the deformity causes aesthetic damage to the foot and in some cases the toe pushes the other toes until they overlap.
For those who suffer from luxation and luxation, it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes with a wide sole and to separate the toe from the rest of the toes using a silicone toe separator or a splint at night.
When the deformity is significant and the pain persists, surgery is performed to correct the 'luxation valgus'. As part of the surgery, the bunion is sawn off, the toe is straightened and the bones are fixed with screws.
The operation is performed in most cases under local anesthesia or sedation.

Fracture treatment - Fracture fixation and fracture fusion
At Athealth Medical Center, surgeries are performed to treat ankle and foot fractures and fracture fusion surgeries.
Fracture fusion is required when, despite fixation, the fracture does not fuse even after several weeks. In these people, the natural biological process in the body of bone regeneration, which is essential for the fusion of fractures, is insufficient. As a result, there is a decrease in the ability to move and the patient suffers from pain. In these cases, surgery is required to fuse the fracture through replacement or addition of fixation.
Is the operation performed under local anesthesia or sedation?

Removal of plates and screws
Surgery to remove means of fixation of fractures such as plates and nails from fractures in the ankle or the palm that have fused. In adults, it is not customary to remove the fixation devices inserted to fix a fracture, except in cases where the fixation devices interfere with the surgery and cause pain. On the other hand, in children and teenagers, in most cases, after the fracture has healed, an operation will be performed to remove the fixation devices, in order not to leave them in the body for many years.
Is the operation performed under local anesthesia or sedation?

Tendon suture surgery
Surgery to suture a torn tendon as a result of trauma or strenuous activity is very common in the following cases:

  • Rupture of the Achilles tendon - the tendon connecting the foot and the calf, which is usually torn as a result of physical activity. After suturing the Achilles tendon, the leg is immobilized with a cast boot for several weeks.
  • A tear in one of the flexor tendons, which are responsible for the ability to move and hold the fingers.
  • A tear in one of the straightening tendons - the tendons that come out of the elbow through the forearm and are responsible for straightening the finger joints.
  • Surgeries to sew tendons in the hand or foot, are performed under regional anesthesia?
